System 2 believe it is only possible to tackle complex issues by engaging deeply with those with lived experience.

This blog explores our learnings from collaborating with those with lived experience. Featuring lessons and case studies from our work, it provides insights into how we try to create trust, equity, and impactful outcomes.

In early 2024, System 2 established a Youth Advisory Board (YAB) comprising of 12 young people, with three main objectives.

1) Amplify the perspectives of young people on the big issues they identify.
2) Support the decision making of our Research Committee.
3) Participate directly in our research projects, where their lived experience is valued.

To select our priority research areas, we began with a review of 60 Australian youth surveys published from 2020–2024. Our YAB, in collaboration with our Research Committee, used this review to identify the three most important issues affecting young Australians experiencing disadvantage.
