Employment Services
We are working to generate evidence that will help transform the employment services system, to better support those facing the greatest barriers to work.
The Challenge
The current approach to employment service delivery in Australia often fails to meaningfully support job seekers—particularly those with complex needs—in securing quality employment. Many job seekers experience inadequate support, find mutual obligation requirements ineffective, and are frequently excluded from the system altogether.
The Approach
In 2023, we completed a mixed methods research project funded by the Paul Ramsay Foundation (PRF) that focused on reimagining the Australian employment services system. We collaborated with over 70 stakeholders and job seekers to co-design ambitious, system-level solutions. This led to two evidence-based, behaviourally informed approaches to improve employment services.
Since 2024, building on our findings with funding from PRF, we began work on one of these solutions to test a new service model that seeks to build agency and trust in the system to improve job seeker outcomes and wellbeing.
